RSD Progressive Challenge Part 2 ~ Aloha Nui

Hi all! It's time for the second part of the Progressive Challenge at Rick St. Dennis' Sparkle and Glitter blog. Those who played along with Part 1 last month will have received free this adorable image by Rick called Aloha Nui. This is the image that we all must use for the second part of the challenge. If you didn't play along and get the freebie, you can still join us this month because she is available for purchase at Zibbet.

I coloured AN with Prismacolor pencils adding in a few Polychromos for shading. She was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and then matted with black cardstock and popped up on foam dots.

The mixed media background began as a rectangle of mixed media paper which I spritzed with Bachelor Button Blue, Tibetan Poppy teal, and Delphinium Turquoise Starburst sprays as well as Butterscotch Adirondack spray. I did leave a lot (for me) of white still showing. Stamping was done with Designs By Ryn's Fiddlehead set and French Ultramarine Archival ink. Love how it reminds me of a seashell because of its shape.

Torn sections of seaside themed paper were adhered to the background after being edged with Vintage Photo Distress ink. Black embossing paste was scraped through TCW's Mini Specimens stencil. Since the top right one reminded me of a sun's placement, I used yellow Pan Pastel to emphasize its glow and further the illusion. Before adhering AN to the background, cheesecloth scraps which had been sprayed with brown or green ink were dried and placed behind her. Tiny seashells were Glossy accented to the brown cheesecloth at her feet.

The sentiment, which is a Hawaiian proverb, was printed on white cardstock, cut apart, and matted with black before being popped up on foam tape. A simple doodled border was added to the outside edges of the background with black pen. The piece was then matted in turquoise and white designer paper and then black cardstock.

Thanks for joining AN and me today. We both appreciate it. If you squint your eyes just right, you will see her dance for you to say thanks. Be sure to pop over to the Sparkle and Glitter blog to see the rest of Team A's projects using this adorable image. Team B will show their makes on the 15th. We can't wait to see what you create with her.

Life is good; so is art.
