You brighten my day ~ CYP challenge 170
Well, hello there. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and is ready for a brand new challenge at Craft Your Passion. The theme this week is Patchwork Background. You can choose patchwork printed paper or create your own paper pieced patchwork like I did.
I played with a sweet image from our fabulous sponsor The Sugar Kissed Cottage. I love the vintage feel to their images and this one called "Good Morning" is no exception. I coloured the image which comes with the sweet scalloped frame with Prismacolor pencils, adding black half pearls to Mr. Sun's baby blues. Once the frame was fussy cut, it was matted on blue cardstock to give the tiny scallops more definition.
I created the background following the Herringbone tutorial found at Splitcoast Stampers. I love that technique and it's an awesome way to use up scraps. I won't go into detail here because it's explained far more clearly on the SCS site than I ever could. Check out the bargello tutorial while you're there. It's another fun patchwork background. Once the herringbone layer was adhered to the white card and the image was layered over that, a few more details completed this card. The sentiment was computer generated, cut like a banner flag, and matted in yellow. Tiny blue faux stitching was added to tie in with the patchwork background.
Three green buttons were threaded with white floss and Glossy Accented over punched blue circles to allow them to stand out from the busy background. Two butterflies, one green and one blue, were punched with a MS punch and layered in the bottom right corner. The two layers were joined only at the body to allow the green wings to pop up. Two blue rhinestones formed the butterfly body.
Thanks for dropping by today. I created the sentiment with you in mind because your visits and comments really do brighten my day. If you get a chance, pop over the the Craft Your Passion Challenges blog to see the wonderful inspiration provided by the rest of the talented DT. Hopefully, you'll feel the pull of the patchwork and will join us in this challenge.
I am entering this card in the following challenges:
Allsorts #214 ~ Favourite Things (herringbone technique, buttons)
613 Avenue Create #27 ~ Anything Goes
