Kitty Surprise Pal 1334 - A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! It's New Release Day at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. This week I was able to play with two of the new images. This is the second of the two (I have another post for the other one). This one is called Kitty Surprise Pal 1334 and absolutely tugs at my heart strings, being the cat person that I am.
I coloured the image with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. The wall that she and kitty are sitting on was coloured with Copic markers and textured with the colourless blender. The image was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, matted with black, and fussy cut leaving a narrow black border. Foam tape was used to pop it up and add dimension.
The background began with a rectangle of gray packaging card stock. Watering Can Archival Ink was used to stamp a Carabelle grid stamp and another punchinella stamp. A previously completed art journal page with a too busy background was torn into three strips which were added to the background. It's funny how a background can be too much in its entirety but great when torn into smaller sections. Ranger Texture Paste was scraped through MFT Weave Mixable stencil in a few places to add more dimension and texture as well as break up some of the gray background.
The sentiment was printed on white card stock, matted with black, and then popped up on foam tape. The heart was die cut and then stamped with a pawprint. Magenta Hue Archival Ink was used to edge the white heart before faux stitching was added and it was adhered to black. Black pen was used to outline the torn scraps of background and Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the background. Black card stock was used to mat the page and serve as a frame.
Thanks for joining Bee a Gardening and me today. We really appreciate that. Firecracker Kid 1342 - A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! It's New Release Friday at Babycakes Digis and Designs, Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop. This week I was fortunate enough to be able to play with two of the week's new images. This one is called Firecracker Kid 1342 and I decided to create a patriotic American version, even though I am a true Red & White Canadian...LOL
The image was coloured with a mix of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. Diamond Stickles was added to the large star in front of his t-shirt. The image was fussy cut leaving my usual white border and then matted with black card stock. Once that was cut leaving a narrow black border, the image was popped up on foam tape for added dimension.
The background for the card was a combination of two different designer papers: a red and white dotty paper and a blue and white striped one which was layered over the red. A third plain blue paper was die cut into a scalloped border and adhered above the blue and white striped layer. Small half circles were punched and added to the scalloped border. A black strip of card stock was used to cover the seam between the blue layer and the scalloped edge. Stars were punched from the same plain blue paper and adhered above Firecracker Kid's wonderful hat. White gel pen highlights were added to each star.
Two pieces of starry washi tape were added to the upper left side. Red and white baker's twine was wrapped around the bottom of the background layer so that the sentiment could be popped up on that. The background layer was then adhered to black card stock to frame it and then adhered to a white card base.
Thanks for joining Firecracker Kid and me today. We really appreciate that. To see the rest of today's new releases and what the DT members have done with them, be sure to visit Sandra's Facebook group where they will be posted throughout the day. Stop by Sandra's Etsy shop, too. You'll see the extra images Sandra posts each Friday as well as a fabulous assortment of images from previous releases. It's an inspiring place to hang out.

Old Family Recipe - Bloobel Stamps Progressive Challenge
Hi everyone! Lisa at Bloobel Stamps is having a Progressive Challenge for the month of February using the fabulous image called Bake Me a Cake. If you played along with the January Progressive Challenge, you were able to purchase this stamp at a discount. If you didn't get to play in January, you can still purchase the Bake Me a Cake image and then qualify for the March discounted image. I love this image because it comes with a whole bunch of layers, icing, and add-on images to make your cake just the way you want it...so fun!
I coloured this little chef with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. The cake layers, icing, and embellies were all coloured separately and then fussy cut on the black lines. The parts were then layered onto the image background. The whole image including the cake was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and matted with black card stock. After fussy cutting her a second time, she was popped up on foam tape for added dimension and natural shadow.
The background began with a piece of plain designer paper cut to 8.5 x 11 inches and then printed with an all-over mustache pattern. Coffee Archival Ink was used to stamp VLV's number stamp and Stamper's Anonymous Coffee Splatter stamps in a few places. It was also used to edge the outside of the mustache paper. Jet Black Archival Ink was used to apply VLV stitching stamp. Two pieces of washi tape backed with white card stock were added to give the little chef a place to stand and each was edged with Coffee Archival Ink to help them blend into the background. Three black rhinestones were used to embellish the outside edge of the washi.
The sentiment( if you mustache, it's an old family recipe) was printed on white card stock, trimmed into individual words, and matted with black. A die was used to cut the label for the puffy mustache sticker. The edges were inked with Coffee Archival Ink and faux stitching was added with black pen before the label was popped up on foam tape. Three smaller black rhinestones were used to mark the dots between the two sentiment parts. A border was doodled around the outside of the background paper and the loose openings were dotted with white paint pen. At this point, the mustache paper looked a little too busy so white paint was dry-brushed here and there to knock it back a bit. Punched photo corners were adhered to the four corners and the entire piece was matted with black card stock to frame it.
Thanks for joining the little chef and me today. We are glad you did! To see more of Lisa's fabulous images and learn more about her Progressive Challenge, be sure to visit Bloobel.com. You still have time to enter this month.

Bee a Gardening 1313 ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! It's New Release Friday at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. Just one more fabulous reason to love Fridays. Today I am playing with the sweetest image which makes me long for spring and gardening. The image is called Bee a Gardening 1313 and will be available in Sandra's shop later today.
I coloured her up with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, adding a little gray Copic marker around the outsides of the two characters to create a shadow. It's subtle but I like doing that when I am not fussy cutting the image and matting it with black. Diamond Stickles were added to the bee's wings to add a little sparkle.
A rectangle of green card stock was matted with black and added to the white card base. Over that, a piece of yellow and white dotty paper matted in black was layered. The image, also matted in black, was adhered over that yellow layer. In the four corners of the yellow layer, tiny threaded black buttons were adhered to set it off. I had printed the image fairly large for a card so there wasn't much room or need to add a lot of embellies.
The sentiment from Create With TLC was printed on white card stock and die cut. The fancy ends of the die cut were trimmed off to better suit the card and then it was matted with black. Foam tape was used to adhere the sentiment and add dimension. Easy peasy card!
Thanks for joining us today. Bee, her little friend, and I appreciate that. To see the other wonderful new releases by Sandra and also the wonderful DT makes with them, be sure and pop by the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group where they will be posted throughout the day. You can also stop over to Sandra's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs, to see not only these newbies but also all of the other wonderful images in her shop. Fly Away Love #1345 ~ a Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! It's Friday and that means new release day at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. The one I have chosen to play with is called Fly Away Love 1345. I just love her wonderful hat and those flying pigtails. Her sweet face makes me smile :)
I coloured FAL up with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Metallic gel pen topped with Glossy Accents was added to her hat pin and Icicle Stickles to the heart's wings. Fal was then fussy cut leaving my usual white border and then matted with black and trimmed out again. Foam tape was added to the back to pop her up. The chocolate bar image which she is resting her hand on was clip art from another Etsy shop.
The background, a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper, was printed with my Gel Press plate using two shades of blue Liquitex acrylic paint and then removing some with a plastic canvas circle shape. Forget-Me-Not Archival ink was used to apply Carabelle Studio Checkerboard stamp in a few places. The stitching stmp is from Viva Las Vegas and was applied with Jet Black Archival ink. The border along the top of the page was created with the same ink and Stampotique Originals Hanging Hearts stamp. Parts of the hearts were coloured in with coloured pencils and pens.
To add a little more texture and break up some of the more solid painty areas, Texture Paste was scraped through TCW Tiny Circles stencil in a few areas and allowed to dry thoroughly. The sentiment was printed on white card stock and then cut into individual words which were then matted with black. Each word was adhered to the background using Scor tape. The outside edges of the background were inked with Black Big Brush pen before the page was matted with black card stock to serve as a frame.
Thanks for popping by today. FAL and I appreciate that. To see the other wonderful new releases by Sandra and also the awesome DT makes with them, be sure and pop by the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group where they will be posted throughout the day. You can also stop over to Sandra's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs, to see not only these newbies but also all of the other wonderful images in her shop. The 2017 Art Journal Adventure - Week 6 Sneak Peek
Hi everyone! It's my turn to host the 2017 Art Journal Adventure on the Joggles blog today. For Week 6, I have made the prompt Use a Subtle Colour Palette which is way out of my usual style...as a matter of fact besides no brights on my page, the only black I used was the matting where I mount the pages into the journal. I'm only giving a sneak peek here...if you want to see the whole page and read about my process, you'll have to pop over to the Joggles blog. Hope you do!

Rosey Hippo 1331 ~ Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! Sandra Caldwell's DT is back from our lovely long break and so excited to share some of her wonderful new images. She has switched her new release day from Mondays to Fridays. The new release I chose to play with first is called Rosey Hippo #1331. I love her attitude and sassy outfit...she makes me smile!
I coloured Rosey with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils making sure that her lipstick coordinated with her lovely rose tattoo and flashy toes. Rosey was fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, matted on black card stock, and fussy cut again. She was popped up on foam tape to give her dimension and create a natural shadow.
The background began as a secondary print pulled from my gel plate. I had used a Joggles foam stamp and acrylic paint. Tiger Lily Archival ink was used to add a Bo Bunny text stamp and Magenta Hue Archival Ink was used to apply a VLV number stamp to the background. Jet Black Archival Ink was used to add dots from a Ellen Hutson stamp. To give Rosey a place to stand, hot pink and orange washi tape was adhered to white card stock and then to the lower right area. A thin strip of designer paper was layered over the longer of the two washi pieces before two enamel dots were adhered to the ends of the tape.
A scalloped border was die cut from the same striped dp and then layered over another cut from black. These were adhered to the left side of the page. A simple border was doodled with a black pen and the washi tape was outlined as well. The sentiment was printed onto white card stock, cut into individual words and matted with black. Foam tape was also used to pop the words up. The outside edge of the page was coloured with Black Big Brush Pen before the page was matted with black.
Thanks for popping by today. Rosey and I appreciate that.
