Belle et Bete ~ RSD Progressive Challenge Part 2
Hi there! It's the first of a brand new month (my birthday month!) and that means that it's time for the next stage of the Progressive Challenge with Rick St. Dennis and the EDT. For Part 2, you must use the image which we have featured on our EDT projects, Belle et Bete. If you played along with Part 1 in September, you will have received this image free. If not, you can still play along by purchasing this image from Rick's Zibbet or Etsy shops.
I coloured Belle et Bete with my Prismacolor pencils using my usual layering to build up vibrant pigment. I fussy cut the image and matted it with black cardstock for strength and greater contrast with the background. Foam tape was then applied to the back.
The background is a layering of two papers from DCWV's The Midnight Spell matstack onto a black card base. I wanted the house to be behind Belle and Bete as if that was his wonderful magical house. It created more of a scene for the characters. The black glittery houndstooth paper was layered under it . I liked the contrast and that it could be a walkway so it seemed to ground them.
The sentiment from Create With TLC was printed on a doily, faux stitched, and cut to fit the corner. Two threaded buttons bring a little of the solid black to that corner of the design and add sweet detail. The rickrack has a green metallic thread running through it which adds sparkle and catches the light.
Thanks for stopping by to meet Belle and Bete. He has some difficulty showing it but they are both happy that you came by...me, too. Be sure to pop over to the RSD Sparkle and Glitter EDT blog to see other wonderful renditions of this RSD image by some of my talented teamies. While you are there, check out the DT Call. It might just be you who we are looking for! Hope you'll join Part 2 of our Progressive Challenge...looking forward to seeing what you do with Belle et Bete.

Happy Thanksgiving ~ The East Wind Challenge #16
Hi everyone! Is it really October already? In two weekends it is our Canadian Thanksgiving...time for family, food, and eating way too much! The theme for Challenge 16 at The East Wind is Canadian Thanksgiving or Giving Thanks so we want to see projects related to either of those. Since it's the first challenge of the month, all of the DT are using the freebie image, Aurora Turkey, which will come in your October TEW newsletter. Isn't she cute! She makes me laugh.
I coloured Aurora Turkey with my Prismacolor pencils and then fussy cut her, edging the outside of the image with a Pitt Brush pen so the white from the cut edge wouldn't show. I then matted her in dark brown cardstock and fussy cut her a second time. This allows her to pop off of the background and gives strength to the skinny feathers. Foam tape was placed on the back of the image.
The background is a layering of a photo mat from my stash, two patterned papers from MME Lost & Found Sunshine, and a rectangle of the brown cardstock which was given a punched scallop edge. The top layer of designer paper was given faux stitching and some simple outlining emphasized other layers. A small piece of the same punched cardstock was adhered under Aurora to ground her...turkeys can't fly!
The sentiments were computer generated, printed on cream cardstock, and cut into flags. The sides were edged with Vintage Photo Distress ink and the flag ends were dotted with a sepia Micron. Two brown half pearls were used to anchor the ends. The only other embellie added was a gold paper flower which was given a black enamel dot center.
Thanks for joining Aurora and me today. We appreciate your company. To see what the rest of our talented DT have "cooked up" (bad pun), pop over to The East Wind Challenge blog for a look-see. You won't be disappointed. We would love it if you played along with us for Challenge 16, Canadian Thanksgiving/Giving Thanks...the more, the merrier.

Crazy Friends ~ CYP Challenge #233
Hi there! We have a new challenge beginning today at Craft Your Passion and the sponsor is near and dear to me...The East Wind. The theme this week is a fun one...use the colour palette below.
I chose to play with Lucy Loo Mustache who never fails to make me smile. I coloured her with Prismacolor pencils and then fussy cut her before matting her with black cardstock. I fussy cut that close to her original lines, wanting the mat to be narrow...just enough to outline her pretty curves. It also gives extra strength to the image which is better when I use foam tape.
The background began with a white card base and a black cardstock rectangle cut slightly smaller than the front. A rectangle was cut from purple dotted cardstock to fit inside the black layer and the one side was edged with a scallop punch. Next a rectangle of shimmery orange textured cardstock was cut and matted in black. Finally, a layer of blue cardstock was die cut using Spellbinders Wonky Rectangles die and then run through my CB with an embossing folder. Once again this layer was matted in black to make it stand out.
The sentiment comes from Create With TLC where I get many of my sentiments. I printed it on green cardstock, cut it out with Spellbinders Deckled Rectangles die, and matted it in...you guessed it...black. Two sizes of enamel dots and a black metal mustache charm were added to complete the card.
Thanks for joining Lucy and me today. We love it when you do that! When you get a minute, pop over to the Craft Your Passion Challenges blog to see the rest of the DT creations using this fabulous palette of blue, green, orange, and purple. I hope you will be inspired to join us this week!

Finished! ~ RSD Altered Hat Book
I have been altering a children's board book using Rick St. Dennis' elegant hat ladies and today I completed the covers using the final two images that I chose for this series. I have loved every moment of this project and can't wait to start another one.
I began by colouring two of the three images in the Hat Shoppe set using Prismacolor pencils. The third image is destined for another project which you'll see soon. I coloured both using a similar palette because I often display my books standing up so that the front and back covers are visible together.
I fussy cut the images leaving a narrow white border, knowing that I was mounting them on black cardstock cut with TH Cameo die. The white allowed them to pop and added strength to the tiny or narrow details like the hat pin or feathers when I popped them up on foam tape.
The background began as a piece of embossed designer paper to which I added white gesso scuffs and stencilling with Memento Peanut Brittle ink through TCW's Netting stencil. I cut the paper to fit the front and back but not to wrap over the spine because then it would be more apt to buckle. Instead I added Scor tape to the spine and then layered gray dotty washi tape over that. It created a tight seal that remained more flexible than paper would have. The edges of the front and back covers were darkened with both Peanut Brittle ink and Green-Gold Big Brush pen.
The sentiment and flags on the back were computer generated on white cardstock, trimmed, and inked with Black Soot Distress ink. Once they were matted with black cardstock, the sentiment was popped up on foam tape and the flags were adhered flat to the covers. Two fancy corner pieces were added to opposite corners to balance the design and move the eye through the covers, so they read as one.
Here's a couple of shots of the book as I usually display it. It can be viewed from all sides and becomes quite a conversation piece just waiting for someone to pick it up. I love altered children's books!

Giggle ~ CYP Challenge # 232
Hi there! It's time for a new challenge at Craft Your Passion Challenges and this week the theme is I Can See Clearly so we want to see some transparent element on your project. Cool theme! It made me think, that's for sure. Our awesome sponsor is Just Some Lines and the image I chose to play with is called Fairy Kyra - Free Fall. She is so cute...just love the sweet expression on her face.
I coloured Kyra with Prismacolor pencils and added Icicle Stickles to her wings and the "parachute" although I didn't capture the sparkle in my photos. Then I fussy cut her leaving a narrow white border and added flat black pearls to her antennae.
I used layers of cardstock for the background, embossing the pink, yellow, and black layers with different patterns for texture and subtle interest. The orange pink and yellow rectangles were each matted in black to allow the layers to stand out and provide contrast. Kyra was then popped up on foam and adhered to the black layer which was cut with Spellbinders Big Scalloped Squares die.
The transparent elements are the two tickets and the Giggle slide mount. They came printed on acetate from HOTP and were fussy cut, mounted on cardstock, and the tickets were matted in black. A tiny length of Scor tape was placed under the vertical line on one end of the tickets so it wasn't visible. To complete the design, a black cardstock scalloped border was punched and added to the top right and three small green brads balanced out the top left corner bringing the green colour from the slide mount through the stem and into the corner brads. That helps the eye move through the design.
Kyra and I are so happy you stopped by. When you get a chance, pop over to the Craft Your Passion Challenges blog to see the fab creations by the rest of the DT. We would love to have you play along with us for our I Can See Clearly challenge.

Broken Dolls ~ new releases from The East Wind
Hi there! It's an exciting day at The East Wind. Not only is there a new challenge on our FB group, Zombies, but Unky is releasing FOUR new images to fit the bill. That's not to say you can't zombify another TEW image to play along but these are brand spankin' new and just waiting for you, as well.
I chose to colour two of the four, Broken Doll and Broken Bisque, using my Prismacolor pencils. I wanted the page to feel distressed and worn, damaged so I tore around the images, matted them with black cardstock, and tore that to frame each.
The background started with an ungessoed page to which I added spritzes of Patience and Plush Art Anthology Colorations sprays plus a little water to help get drips and splats. After drying that with my heat tool, I added Black Marble Dylusions spray ink to the top of the page, again letting it drip. I also flicked some over the page and blew some drops using a straw to get finer drips. Again, I dried it and then added Jet Black Archival ink through a crackle stencil randomly. Smaller cracks were stamped on using the same ink and a marble crackle stamp.
The sentiments were computer generated...I am such a font freak! Loved the sketchy messiness of this one. Once printed on white cardstock, the sections were distressed on the edges and then inked with Vintage Photo Distress ink to grunge them up. They were matted with corrugated cardboard with the top layer removed. This added to the distressed and imperfect look I was going for.
The finishing touches were the black scalloped border which I divided into two sections and to which I added white paint dots, and the shiny textured purple stars. I love the shine they provide as well as the pop of colour. They also help the eye move through the spread as they are in opposite corners. The page edges were inked with Black Soot Distress ink as well as Black Big Brush pen.
Thanks for popping by today. All three of us are happy you came. Check out the other DT makes on The East Wind Facebook page where you can also see the other two new releases. I hope you will join us for our Zombie challenge!
Life is good...so is art...so is running faster than a zombie:)
