Dreaming of Sleep ~ A LeighSBDesigns image
Hi everyone! I used to be the best sleeper in the world and I must say, I miss those days...and nights :) That's why when I saw this image from LeighSB Designs, I knew I had to feature her in an art journal page about my current sleep pattern. She is called Lil Miss Oddleigh Dreaming of Sleep.
I love the character, Lil Miss Oddleigh. She is quirky and so fun to colour...she has the most expressive face. I coloured her with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. She was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, matted with black, and fussy cut again leaving a narrow black border. This gives her a shadow and really helps pop her out from the background. It also gives strength to the skinny bits so they don't tear off. Miss Oddleigh was popped up on foam tape to create a natural shadow and give the page some dimension.
The background, a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper, was spritzed with French Violet Purple Teal and French Lilac Violet Lindy's Starburst Sprays. When this was dry, more pattern was added with Deep Purple Archival Ink and Viva Las Vegas Colour Wheel Lines Stamp. VLV Row of Stars stamp was also added with Jet Black Archival Ink. To give Lil Miss Oddleigh a place to rest her weary feet, two rows of purple and white washi tape were added to white cardstock and adhered to the bottom edge. A moon and stars were punched from yellow clean up papers from my stash. Both the washi and the moon/stars were outlined with black pen to help them stand out.
The sentiment (so true in my case) was printed on white cardstock and cut into individual words with the exception of "fall asleep". These were then matted with black cardstock and popped up on foam tape. Clear Wink of Stella was added to the moon and stars to make them sparkle and black Big Brush Pen was used to edge the page. A black cardstock mat was adhered to the background to frame it and finish things off.
Thanks for joining Lil Miss Oddleigh and me today. We're glad that you did. When you get a chance, pop by Leigh's Etsy shop to see the other fabulous images she has there. Lil Miss Oddleigh is going for a nap but I have several other friends of hers printed up and calling to me to be coloured. You can stop by LeighSB Designs Fan Group on Facebook, too, to see more of these fabulous images "in action".
Life is good; so is art.
