The East Wind and Simply B Stamps Creepmas Contest

Hi everyone. This week there is a special event over on Facebook. The East Wind and Simply B stamps are collaborating for a fun Creepmas contest. Both Umky and Betty have designed an image specifically for this event and the DTs from both have created inspiration projects to get you started.

The first of my projects features The East Wind image called Lucy Loo "Creepmas Elf's Gift Wrapping Service". I coloured Lucy, her snake ribbons and gruesome gifts with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Glossy Accents was added to the various eyeballs and then the piece was fu a narrow white border. Black matting was added to the image and foam tape was used to pop it up.

The background was created with layers of Brusho crystals as well as some Starburst sprays for extra shimmer. Forget-Me-Not Archival ink was used to create pattern using a Christmas music stamp. Library Green Archival ink was applied with a Joggles background stamp. Four tiny Christmas trees were die cut from black and threaded through with washi tape applied to white cardstock in order to create a border. The sentiments were either computer generated and coloured with Prismacolor pencils or sticker letters dotted with black paint pen. A TH skellie charm was adhered to the background with Glossy Accents before it was matted with a black frame.

My second project features the awesome image created by Simply Betty of Simply B stamps. I love the look on her face. It goes perfectly with the sentiment that comes with this stamp. Again, I used Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils to colour her and then fussy cut and matted her the same as the first image, popping her up on foam tape,

The sentiment was printed on white cardstock and cut with a Spellbinders Label 26 die. It was then faux stitched and matted with black before it was also popped up on foam. The 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper was colourized with Brusho crystals and water as well as Starburst sprays from Lindy's. A snowflake stamp was added in several places with Red Geranium Archival ink and some black dots were stamped with Jet Black Archival.

Three Christmas tree buttons were adhered to the right side of the background and a wee tree border was doodled. Before the image and sentiment were adhered to the background, a skinny piece of cheesecloth was layered over the background near the bottom and adhered to the back side. A scallop border was die cut from sparkly green dotty paper and another skellie charm was adhered in the middle of that. The edges and matting were done in the same fashion as the first project.

Thankful People ~ One Sweet Challenge November theme

Well, I'm sure you have heard by now that Sweet Pea Stamps is closing its doors at the end of November so this will be our last month to run One Sweet Challenge. Our theme for this month is Thanksgiving or Thanks. Canadian Thanksgiving has already passed since we have ours in early October unlike the American one which is later this month. Since I have been consciously working on maintaining thoughts of gratitude, I decided to make that my focus for this mixed media project.

I chose to feature Ronne P. Barton's The Gold Fairy on my page. I coloured her with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, adding some Icicle Stickles to her wings and the highlights on the bubbles for a little shimmer and magic. The image including the individual bubbles were fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, and matted with black cardstock. Once they were trimmed out again, the larger image was popped up on foam tape and the small bubbles were adhered flat to the background.

The 6 x 8 inch mixed media rectangle was spritzed with water and then Purple and Turquoise Brusho crystals were sprinkled into the water. More water was added to help the paint move and blend while still leaving white space.Three sizes of butterflies were punched from yellow scraps of Lindy's Starburst sprayed paper and tiny star sequins were added for the bodies. Three flags of washi tape mounted to white cardstock were hand cut and adhered in two places. The word Grateful, a TH Big Chat sticker, was added to the top of the upper strips.

The computer generated sentiment was printed on white cardstock and matted with black. It was popped up on foam to create dimension and shadow. Two black one inch circles were punched and then split in half to form the scallops around the sentiment. White paint pen dots embellished them. Black pen was used to doodle the border repeating the circles from the image. Black big brush pen was used to edge the background before it was double matted with blue patterned and plain black cardstock.

RSD progressive Challenge Part 1

Hi again! The first of the month is when Team A of Rick St. Dennis' EDT post their inspiration projects for the Progressive Challenge on the Sparkle and Glitter blog. November 1 is the beginning of Part 1 where we can use any RSD image we want. For those who play along this month, you will receive the Part 2 image free. It's been a while since I coloured one of Rick's beautiful faces so this time I chose to play with Q of H which can be found in Rick's Zibbet shop.

I coloured Q (not the James Bond one) with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. She was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and then matted with black cardstock. Foam tape was used to adhere her to the background providing both dimension and a shadow around her.

The simple background began with a 6 x 8 piece of mixed media paper onto which I sprinkled Scarlet Brusho crystals. Water was then spritzed onto the crystals and the card was then tipped various ways to create drips. The skinny drips were created with the TH Spritzer tool by just squeezing the air using the bulb. Text was stamped with Red Geranium Archival ink and open circles with a Joggles background stamp and Jet Black Archival ink. Tiny sticker hearts were placed at intervals around the border and black pen lines drawn to connect them.

The  computer generated sentiment was printed on white cardstock, trimmed, and then matted with black cardstock. The two sections were glued flat to the background. Two Scribbly Hearts were die cut from black cardstock and added to the right side to balance Q. A metal crown charm was added to the top right corner and a fun Alice in Wonderland ticket was added to the bottom right corner. Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the background before it was matted with black cardstock.

TEW Challenge #42 Movember Mustaches

Hi everyone! It's the start of a new month so that means a new challenge at The East Wind as well as the new freebie image in the TEW newsletter. Our theme this time is Movember Mustaches in honour and support of all of our guys. Movember begins today with clean shaven men who then grow a mustache for the 30 days of November. This is to fund raise and create awareness for men's health issues. Our image this time is called Movember and was created specifically with this challenge in mind.

I coloured Movember (Mo) with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Black pen was used to add stripes to his vest and Glossy Accents gave his glasses shine and dimension. Metallic gold and silver gel pens were used on his M medallion and his pocket watch. He was then fussy cut leaving a white border and matted with black cardstock before being popped up on foam tape.

The 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper was sprayed with Cut Grass and Fresh Lime Dylusions ink plus a little water to allow the ink to move and blend. Once dry, Jet Black Archival ink was used to add pattern through the TH Burlap stencil as well as on Stampendous' Wired stamp. More black rings were added with bottle lids and Dylusions Black Marble paint. White stencilling and rings were added with TCW's Harlequin stamp and bottle lids dipped in gesso. White embossing paste was scraped through TCW's Tiny Circles stencil for added texture and dimension.

Mustache printed duck tape was applied to white cardstock and then cut into flags. It's such sticky stuff that it can be hard to work with unmounted...it's not very forgiving! Black flags were added over the mustache tape and gray and white dotty buttons adhered on top of those. The computer generated saying was printed on white cardstock, matted with black, and popped up with foam tape. A punched scallop border was adhered above it and a mustache sticker below. To complete the piece, black doodling was added next to the stencilled harlequin pattern, black Big Brush pen edged the background, and a black mat was added to frame it.

new release at The East Wind

Hi everyone. There's another new release at The East Wind today and I was able to play along. It's an Unkytoon image called Sit Down and Doing Nothing. She's just relaxing on her broom along with her little furry sidekick. I coloured them with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. They were then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, matted in black cardstock, and popped up on foam tape.

The background was created with Dried Marigold, Scattered Straw, and Worn Lipstick blended together. Stamping was done using a script stamp and Coffee Archival ink as well as a Joggles background stamp using brilliance Rocket Red Gold which has a gorgeous shimmer. Stencilling was done with Jet Black Archival sponged through Memory Box's Alpha Crumbled stencil. White embossing paste was scraped through a harlequin stencil and shaded on one side with a Stabilo pencil. Dylusions Black Marble paint was used to create bottle top rings and gift card lines.

To complete the piece, a black border was doodles around the outside edges. The lettering was stamped onto the background and doodled around with  a black and a white pen. Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the background before it was matted with black cardstock to frame it.

Day 21 of the 31 Days of Halloween ~ Rick St. Dennis' Airless Chambers

It's that time again for Rick St. Dennis' Airless Chambers Crew to join in the creepiest bloghop of the year, the 31 days of Halloween, organized by Smeared Ink. Today it's my turn to post on the Airless Chambers blog for Day 21.

I have a mixed media piece featuring two of Rick's wonderful images, Dancing with the Starz and Flying High. They make quite a team and both seemed to fit the sentiment. They were coloured with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils and then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border. They were each matted with black cardstock before being trimmed out again and popped up on foam tape.

The 6 x 8 rectangle of mixed media paper which forms the substrate was spritzed with water and then sprinkled with Orange, Lemon, and Scarlet Brusho crystals. The background was tilted various ways so that the colours would run and blend before they were allowed to dry. Stars were die cut from black cardstock and scattered across the background. Inky dots were added with a Joggles background stamp and Jet Black Archival. The edges of the background were lined with Black Big Brush pen before it was mounted on black cardstock to frame it.

The sentiment was computer generated and printed onto white cardstock. The letters were filled in with red marker and the words were matted with black and popped up on foam tape. An enamel heart was adhered beside the last two words for emphasis and balance.

One Sweet Challenge reminder Post ~ Autumn Colours

Hi everyone! It's time for the One Sweet Challenge Mid-October reminder post. Our themes this month are either All Souls' Day or Autumn Colours which is the one I chose to feature. Autumn is my favourite season and I love how it's a feast for the senses, including the eyes. The trees here are absolutely breath-taking right now.

I chose to feature Holly Durr's image called Longing which can be found at Sweet Pea Stamps. I coloured the image with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. It was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, matted in black, and trimmed out again. Foam tape was added to the back to create dimension and shadow.

The 6 x 8 inch mixed media paper rectangle was colourized with Scattered Straw, Spiced Marmalade, and orn Lipstick Distress inks applied with blending tools. Jet Black Archival ink was sponged through Colorbox's Rounded stencil to create the circles. Joggles Faux Latin text stamp was applied to the background with Coffee Archival ink and Stampendous Mish Mesh stamp was added with Orange Blossom Archival ink. White gesso bottle lid rings and black specks were added to the mix. A length of burlap was adhered across the background and a wide and glittery pumpkin themed ribbon was added over that.

Once the image was adhered, a segment of black punched border was added to the bottom left corner. Three black triangles balanced out the other corners. The letters for the word Autumn are Thickers. Nature's Grand Finale was computer generated, trimmed out, and popped up on foam. The other part of the scalloped border was tucked underneath it to give it more visual weight and emphasis. To complete the piece, Orange Big Brush pen was used around the outside edges of the background and a black cardstock mat was used to frame it.
