Have a Yummy Birthday! (CYP)

This week at Craft Your Passion, our challenge theme is Ribbons and/or Lace. I was able to work with another fun vintage image from The Sugar Kissed Cottage called Ice Cream Girl. She reminds me of the wonderful illustrations from vintage primary school readers. I just love the look on her sweet face and her adorable little outfit. I coloured her with Prismacolor pencils, cut her out, and then as usual, ran black Pitt pen around the edges so the white edge didn't distract from the image. It also hides any cutting bloops!

The background paper from K & Co.'s Wild Raspberry stack was matted in black to make it pop. The scallop border was cut from MME's Traveller stack using the MFT big scallop die and then edged with festive berries Distress ink. before adhering the borders to the top and bottom of the card, a swing for the l'il missy was hand drawn on kraft cardstock, cut out, and coloured with prismas. Two holes were poked through each end and fine twine was used for the swing supports. The swing was popped up with foam tape, as was Missy. Narrow red ribbon was tied in bows to accent the twine.

To further address the theme, a length of narrow lace was adhered to the bottom edge of the lower scalloped border. Four black buttons threaded with black floss were glued to the two borders. The sentiment was computer generated, cut out with a 1" circle punch, and matted with a Spellbinder-cut scalloped circle. Two short pieces of the satin ribbon were used to continue the ribbon theme and make the sentiment look like a prize ribbon.

Thanks for visiting with Missy and me today. Be sure to check out the projects made by the rest of the DT on the Craft Your Passion Challenges blog. They have done a wonderful job exploring the Ribbons/Lace challenge theme. We'd love to have you play along and look forward to visiting you.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Life is good; so is art.

She really is a little cutie, love the way you have coloured her and I think the way you have put in the ropes for the swing is a brilliant idea. Love the little buttons at the bottom to balance it. Beautiful card. Hugs, Anne x

Dear Missy,

You are as pretty as a picture! I can see your Mum has gone to a great deal of effort to make you look this gorgeous but all the time she spent sure was worth it!! That swing of yours is just darling and wonderfully secured.

(I especially like the tip of her using pitt pen as I too have a little trouble with cutouts).

Enjoy your birthday and make sure not to drip any ice-cream!

Bonnie...your card is so so cute! I totally agree with you that your little girl looks like one of those characters from the old readers. She is so cute and you have done such a wonderful job of coloring her to coordinate with your card stock you used on your card. Love the red and white! The scallop die cut strips at the top and bottom are perfect! I am so happy that you liked my water art journal page so much! It makes me feel so good that it brought a big smile to your face! Have a great week! Hugs, Candy

Oh, Bonnie, this is lovely. I love how you put her on the swing. All the little details (like the ribbons at the top) are wonderful. I'm amazed to learn that you use colored pencils too-how do you get such vibrant color? Do you layer a lot or use OMS?
