April ePlay Challenge ~ Wood

Welcome! It's time for our April ePlay challenge at eclectic Paperie and this month Sherry is our hostess with the mostest. She has chosen the theme "Wood" so we want to see projects where you have added something made of wood or where the substrate itself is wood. I had a  5.5 x 6 x 1.5" block of wood which I decided would be perfect for my project. I love the chunkiness of it. I adhered some Idea-ology Melange Tissue Wrap to the front and four sides of the block using Matte Medium and covering it again with another layer on top. I love how the colour of the wood showed through and gave me instant aging. I helped that along by applying Vintage Photo Distress ink in random places with the applicator tool. The edges were inked more heavily a second time. Spun Sugar was also applied here and there to the front.

Torn scraps of three papers (black cardstock, rose coloured DP, and yellow DP) were layered across the bottom after having been inked with either Vintage Photo or Victorian Velvet Distress inks. Stencilling was then done with black gesso pounced through the TCW Mini Circles stencil. White gesso was patted onto a TH Harlequin stamp with my trusty finger and stamped over the background in a few places. The yellow paper was way too bright and clean for my taste so the colour was knocked back by applying Vintage Photo over it. The corner stamp from TH's Classics 16 was applied to the background using Jet Black Archival ink. You can just make out a bit of it in the bottom left corner.

The star topper across the top of the block was cut twice using Alterations Star Cluster On the Edge die: once from the rose coloured DP and once from black cardstock to create a drop shadow. They were glued together and then popped up on dimensional foam. Doodling with a Pitt pen, highlighting with a white coloured pencil, Remnant Rubs elements harlequins were applied to the top along with the word Imagine and some Christy Tomlinson Doodle Art rub ons. Silver sequins were adhered to four stars with Glossy Accents.

The reason for the star border came from the fabulous quote from Wendy Vecchi's Art Comforts stamp set. It was stamped with Jet Black Archival ink onto a scrap of Printery paper which was then inked around the edges with Black Soot DI before matting it with black. It was backed with a scrap of cheesecloth  and then adhered to the background.

The sweet little girl in pink comes from a Hidden Vintage Studio image collection called Just So Bossy. Her name in the collection was Bossy Bonnie...an oxymoron if you ask me...lol. She was fussy cut and inked around with Spun Sugar Distress ink and a black Big Brush pen. Her wings were from my computer file. They were stamped with Victorian Velvet and Wendy Vecchi's Background Mesh stamp. The corners of the wings were coloured with a black Sakura Glaze pen and they were outlined and doodled on. Bonnie was matted in black before she was given her wings and then they both were popped up on foam tape.

To finish the  block, words and phrases from Idea-ology Remnant Rubs were scatttered around the piece. Christy Tomlinson Doodle Stitch rub ons were also added. Two small and three large enamel dots were adhered to the wings and the corner for the shine and the dimension. White gesso was pounced through TCW's Mini Punchinella stencil onto the four sides. A small finial and two wooden doll head beads were painted black and added to the top and bottom respectively. The final touch was to add black Big Brush pen to the edges of the front and sides.

And that's it, that's all for my response to Sherry's wood ePlay challenge. I thank you for dropping by today...both Bonnies love that! If you get a chance stop by the eclectic Paperie blog to see Sherry's amazing project to launch the challenge. Watch the thumbnails below her post to see the links to the DT pieces as they are added. We'd love to see your link added as you play along.

Be an original ~ Eclectic Ellapu Challenge

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not much of a cook. My husband does all of the cooking in this family. However, I am able to follow a recipe...especially a challenge recipe :D That's what Andria wants us to do for this week's Purple challenge at Eclectic Ellapu. The recipe has the following ingredients: 1 stamped or digi image + 2 embellies + 3 papers + 2 diecuts. That I can do!!

I started with a 3.5 x 4.25"  block of wood left over from our recent reno project that is just shy of 1.5" thick. The sides were covered in Rusty Hinge Distress Stain and the top had a ledger type paper from MME's Reunion pad adhered with gel medium and then trimmed to fit the block. The TCW hexagon stencil was used with Rusty Hinge Distress ink to create a pattern over the paper. A second patterned paper from the same collection was die cut with a die from Spellbinders Office Supplies set to create the torn notebook edged rectangle. A third paper was die cut with an MFT large scallop die and adhered over the second paper. Once they were glued to the wood block, a small ink blot stamp from Hampton Arts was randomly applied to all papers.

The digital image is from Deidre Mosher as is the sentiment. Both were coloured with Prismacolor pencils and fussy cut. Olive's glasses and the O of original were coated with Glossy accents to create dimension and shine. Flat pearls were placed in the three corners of the frame, on the hat ornament, and on the center of a punched flower which was added to her hat decoration. The edges of the frame were inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and the image was matted on black cardstock before being popped up on foam tape.

To complete this project, the sentiment was matted with black cardstock and popped up on foam dots. Black cord, my second type of embellie, was criss-crossed below the image and tied in the back. Faux stitching was placed around the edges of the block which was then outlined with a black Big Brush pen to create definition.

Just a fun and quick little project which manages to follow the recipe...just don't tell my husband. He might expect me to do that in the kitchen and that would seriously cut into my play time. Thanks for stopping by today. If you get a chance, pop by the Eclectic Ellapu blog to see how the rest of the Purple Team spun this recipe. I hope you feel inspired to play along.

My Heart Bee-longs to You ~ Eclectic Ellapu challenge

It's the Purple Team's turn to respond to the challenge at Eclectic Ellapu and I get to host this week...so much fun. In honour of myself (just kidding!), I chose the theme B is for... I'd like to see at least three things on your project that start with the letter B. They can be in the image(s), the embellies, or the colours. For my project, B is for block of wood, bees, buttons, border, and baker's twine. Yes, I got carried away but it's my party and I'll B if I want to...LOL.

I started with a block of wood that is about 5.75 x 6.25" by 1.5" thick. I painted Fresco Finish paints (Haystack, Zesty Zing, Pumpkin Soup) wet on wet to create a streaky background with variation in colour. Once that was dry, Studio 490 Black Embossing paste was messily scraped across TCW's Reverse chickenwire stencil and allowed to dry. White gesso was pounced over TCW's Mini Punchinella stencil using the hexagonal section.A leftover  die cut border remnant that was sitting on my desk was added to the bottom edge of the block. One of the lids in my stash was dipped into watered down white gesso to create the overlapping white rings.

The images are from QKR Stampede. Their quirky designs are delightful and make me smile every time. I coloured both the queen bee and her handsome friend with Prismacolor pencils. The black stripes were coated with Versamarker pen and then sprinkled with black embossing powder before being heat set. The queen's lovely crown was coated with the Versamarker pen and then embossed in gold before black and white half pearls were added to it. Both bees had Icicle Stickles added to their wings before they were fussy cut and adhered to the background. Glossy Accents were added to their eyes. His antennae were redrawn with black Micron pen and more flat pearls were added. Shading was done around the bodies with brown watercolour and a waterbrush. Mr. Bee had this wonderful flight trail on the image which, of course, was cut off so I decided to add baker's twine to replicate it and add another B element.

Two black and white dotted buttons were threaded with narrow satin ribbon and adhered to the top right corner of the block. Three pieces of black and white washi tape were added, two to the front and one on the side. Doodling was done with a Micron pen. The sentiment is a digi from bird's cards which was printed, coloured with Prisma pencils, fussy cut,and matted in black before being popped up on foam and adhered to the block.

That's it for my B is for...project. Pop by the Eclectic Ellapu blog to see what the rest of the Purple Team has created for this fun challenge. They really outdid themselves...knocked it out of the park on this one! Thanks for checking out my blog today. I'm always happy to have your wonderful company. And now, I think these two want to be alone so I'm going to make myself scarce...at least for a Bit!

I am entering this project in the following challenges:

Crafty Friends Challenge #2 ~ Bingo Die Cut border, yellow, Buttons
Digi Haven Challenge(June 7) ~ Anything Goes
C.R.A.F.T. Challenge #210 ~ Anything But a Card
