Vera Lane Studio ATC Swap

Hi everyone! There is a fun artist trading card swap going on right now in the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group. The theme is Things With Wings and not only can we use the Vera Lane Studio digital images but we can also use the adorable rubber stamps that Janet Klein designed for AALL & Create.

I chose this sweet bee image from the Pixie Dust set to star on my ATC. Love her to bee-its! I coloured her with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, and fussy cut her leaving the narrow white border. Then she was adhered to black cardstock and fussy cut leaving a narrow black border before she was popped up on foam tape.

The background started as a piece of vintage book paper which was used to mop up yellow and rust Lindy's sprays. A hexagon stamp was inked with the same watery mixture and applied behind where the bee would be placed. A scrap of cardstock spritzed with the same colours was matted with black and adhered along the bottom of the card. The black honeycomb die cut from Tim Holtz was trimmed around and adhered to the top and right side of the card. Inktense pencil activated with a water brush was used to shade inside the openings and next to the bottom edge of the die cut piece. Small circles were doodled onto the plainer part of the background before the words were added with foam tape. Three enamel dots finished off the card.

Thanks for stopping by today to visit with Bee and me. We hope that you will be inspired to play along with this fun swap on the Vera Lane Studio FB page. It's open to join in the fun until February 25. Check out the huge selection of digi stamps at the Vera Lane Studio Etsy shop or the sweet selection of Janet's stamps from AALL & Create.

Postcard Swap at Vera Lane Studio

Hi everyone! I am squeaking under the wire on this, There is a postcard swap in the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group which closes on Saturday, September 28. I have lost track of dates this month and suddenly realized that I had better get my rear in gear.  The theme for the swap is Which Vera Lane Studio image are you? which is a super fun idea. I combined several  Vera Lane Studio images to put this together. I used the girl and one cat from the Girl and Cat with Hats set, the sitting cat from Kadee and Kat, the coffee cup from the Coffee Cups set, and the paintbrush from Max Makes Art. I could have just as easily called this "These are a few of my favourite things :)

The images were coloured with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, fussy cut, and matted with black. Black epoxy dots were added to the coffee cup's eyes. The background was a clean up sheet from a gel print using acrylic paint. Manganese Blue Archival Ink was applied to a VLV numbers stamp and Cobalt Blue to an Ellen Hutson Bokeh Stamp to add more pattern to the background. Ranger Texture Paste was scraped through TCW Tiny Circles stencil to add a little dimension and brightness to the more solid areas.

A strip of green dotty washi tape was adhered to white cardstock to keep the see through dots white. It was adhered across the bottom of the card to give the crew a place to stand...or sit as the case may be. The wording was printed onto white cardstock, matted with black. A simple border was doodled with black pen and the postcard was matted with black to frame it. Two green puffy hearts were added to the top right corner of the card to bring some of that colour from the bottom to the top of the card.

Thanks for stopping by today. The whole gang appreciates that. If you are quick, you can still join in the postcard swap. It's always fun to trade art with others, especially when they feature Vera Lane Studio images.

Summer Postcard for Vera Lane Studio swap

Hi everyone! For the July swap in the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group, Carole has decided we will trade postcards with a summer theme. I have never traded postcards before so I'm extra excited to play along this time. The postcards can either be 4x6 inches (which I chose) or 3.5x5 inches and must feature a Vera Lane Studio image.

I decided to have The Sailor and her sailboat star on my postcard. I love her sweet face and little sailor suit. I coloured them with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Both images were fussy cut leaving my usual white border, matted with black cardstock, and fussy cut again leaving a narrow black border. Some tiny TH number rub-ons were added to the one sail of the boat.

The background began as a larger gel print created with shades of blue and green acrylic paints. Additional texture was added with a number stamp from Studio Light, and a dotty stamp from Indigo Blu using Manganese Blue Archival Ink. A grid stamp by Studio Light was added with Jet Black Archival Ink. Tiny Xs were scattered in a few clusters using a black pen and an Alexandra Renke stencil. To create the wave pattern at the bottom of the card, a scrap of scallop printed designer paper was fussy cut and, once glued in place, was outlined with black pen. White Gesso was applied with an empty tape roll to make the double circles. Inktense pencil activated and applied with a waterbrush helped the circles stand out.

The punny wording was printed onto white cardstock, cut apart, and matted with black cardstock. The edges of the card were inked with Manganese Blue Archival Ink, and edged with Black Big Brush Pen. A simple doodled border was added as well as a small chevron rub-on was placed in the upper right corner.

Thanks for popping by to visit with The Sailor and me. We appreciate that.  Be sure to stop by the VLS Facebook group to see the other swap postcards as they are posted in the album there. We would love it if you joined in. Check out the Vera Lane Studio Etsy shop as well. There are wonderful new sets and collage sheets added all the time! Oh, the possibilities!

The Beatles ATC Swap ~ inspired by Vera Lane Studio images

Hi everyone! There is a fun Artist Trading Card swap going on on the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group for the month of June. We are to use a Beatles song or song lyric to inspire our ATC (2.5x3.5 inches) and after June 24, we will be assigned swap partners. Janet Klein, the artist behind Vera Lane Studio, has designed two fabulous digi sets featuring the Fab Four and  wonderful Beatles lyrics: George and Ringo and John and Paul.

I have used Paul from the later set paired with his hippie girlfriend, Paz, from the Peace Out stamp set. I thought they made a lovely couple and suited the song lyric, When I'm 64. Both are coloured with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils and fussy cut. The background for the atc is cardstock spritzed with yellow Lindy's Starburst sprays and stencilled/stamped with Tiger Lily Archival Ink. A small strip of torn music paper grounds them. The atc design was completed with a black puffy heart, a doodled border, and black Big Brush Pen to edge it.

Thanks for joining Paul, Paz, and me today. We would love it if you decided to participate in the Vera Lane Studio Beatles swap. It's always so exciting to receive happy mail and to know that something you create finds a good home in another part of the world. To check out the other entries over the month of June, be sure to visit the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group and go to the photo album for the swap. I can't wait to see what others create!

Bookmark Swap for Vera Lane Studio Facebook group

Hi everyone! There is a fun swap going on this month in the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group. This month we are swapping bookmarks and the theme is Let's Hear It For the Girls. I love making bookmarks, celebrating the females in our lives, and creating with Vera Lane Studio images so this was win/win/win all around. I chose to feature the earth from the Change the World set and the girl and stars from Pleiades. I turned the girl horizontal so she looked like she was flying over the earth in her invisible cape.

All images were coloured with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, fussy cut and matted with black cardstock. The stars were given a coat of Wink of Stella to add a little shimmer.

The background began as a 2.5x6 inch rectangle of mixed media paper which was spritzed with Lindy's Afternoon Delight Denim(top2/3) and Sassy Sapphire (bottom 1/3) Starburst Sprays plus water. Once dry, the card was splattered with white paint plus water using a rake brush to create a starry sky.

The sentiment was printed onto white cardstock, cut into sections, and matted with black. The topper was created from green and blue seam binding to pull the earth colours  up to the top section. The background was adhered to a sturdy piece of black cardstock both to frame it and to add strength and faux stitching was added around the outside edges with a black pen.

Thanks for joining Pleiades and me today. We love that you dropped by. To see the other fabulous bookmarks already entered into the swap, be sure to pop by the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group and check out the album. We would love to have you play along.
