Style is Timeless ~ Altered Board Book

Hey there! I have the next installment in my Hat Ladies Altered Board book. I've taken a child's board book, gessoed the entire thing, and am creating mixed media spreads featuring Rick St. Dennis' fabulous Hat Ladies. This one stars the image called 1940 Hat but she told me her name is Jenny. I just love how elegant and pensive she looks.

I coloured Jenny with Prismacolor pencils, fussy cut her, and mounted her on black cardstock. This gives her a lovely black outline which contrasts with any background and strengthens any thinner bits (like the feathers) when I pop the image up on foam tape.

I covered the background with some older Bo Bunny Timepiece paper from my hoard vault...time to break it out! Smaller rectangles from the same collection were edged in Distress inks and layered on both pages. Pattern was added with Jet Black Archival ink through TCW's Tiny Circles stencil.

White gesso was applied to the bottom of an old flip flop and used as a stamp to create the cross hatch designs. Flip flops have the most amazing textures on the bottom and they are so inexpensive ($ store) and fun. I just stamped this pattern in two directions to get the cross hatch. Jenny was placed over the large block of solid paper and two clocks were fussy cut from the Bo Bunny paper to anchor the corners of the layered rectangles.

To further the time theme, large chipboard clock hands were adhered, one on each page, and topped off with large gold pearls. These were a little too shiny for me so I added a little Treasure Gold to each with my finger. Part of the sentiment, Fashions come and go, was computer generated, matted in black and popped up on foam tape. The other letters for But Style is Timeless are Idea-ology Alpha Parts, Alpha Tiles, and stickers. To complete the design, some punched semi-circles and border left-overs were added to the pages, doodling was done with a black pen, washi tape added, and white dots were created with a paint pen. Jenny approves!

Thanks for visiting today. Jenny and I both appreciate it. For more inspiration using Rick's fabulous images, fun challenges, and some wonderful sharing of projects and knowledge, come and visit:
