A Wish ~ TEW Challenge #63 project

Hi everyone! Today marks the beginning of a new challenge on The East Wind blog. Our theme for Challenge #63 is I Like to Move It, Move It. We have a couple of ways that you can play along. You can either create a project where something actually moves, slides, wobbles, jiggles IRL OR you can use an image where there is movement within it (like the dandelions blowing in the wind) OR you can create movement in the background in an artsy fartsy way. I chose to do the second and third options on my art journal page.

The image with movement in it is called Dandelion and it was one that immediately came to mind when I read this theme. The image was coloured with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Once it was cut into a circular shape, the edges were inked with Broken China and Salty Ocean Distress inks. The image was then matted with black card stock and popped up on foam tape to create dimension and a natural shadow around it.

The background began life as a rectangle of white card stock onto which I flipped an ink sprayed stencil from Joggles called Bubble Blast to clean it off. The sprays used were Lindy's Starburst sprays in a variety of greens. I love using the negative stencilled image and hate wasting ink and wonderful colour so I often do this. It gives me a ready made background for a project like today's. To continue the flight of the dandlion seeds, I drew, coloured, and Glossy Accented more seeds onto the background. More movement and pattern was created by tracing through ColorBox SwirlDot stencil with a black pen and then filling in a pattern of lines in the open circles. Movement lines were addded beside the dandelion seeds with the same pen.

The sentiment was printed on white card stock and the words were cut apart. Black matting and foam tape were added to the backs of each word. Three large black domed pearls were added to the upper left corner to balance the design but that was it for embellies. I wanted a very light, airy background where the bubbles and swirls played up the theme of movement and the focus was on this beautiful image.

Yippee! Guesting for Joggles Art Journal Adventure - Week 37

Woop! Woop! I have the privilege of hosting this week's Joggles Art Journal Adventure this week for Barb. I am so excited, a little nervous (big shoes to fill!), and I can't wait to see what people create in response. The theme I have chosen is to create texture on an art journal background using crumpled tissue paper. I am a huge fan of texture and usually combine several types which I did today. Snow Time Like You ~ Inspired by a Sandra Caldwell New Release

Hi everyone! it's Monday and that means that Sandra Caldwell has another fabulous group of new releases available in her Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. The one I chose to play with this week is called Snowy Storm #1024. I love snowmen and this one is so cute I couldn't resist colouring him up to star in a Christmas or Winter card.

I coloured Snowy with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. The spirals around him were outlined with turquoise metallic gel pen to add a bit of sparkle to the background. The image was cut along the frame lines and then the corners were rounded before it was matted with black card stock to let it show against the background. Foam dots were used to adhere it to the card, creating dimension and shadow.

The patterned paper behind our little snowman image was cut into a rectangle slightly smaller than the white card base and then matted with black card stock to frame it. A black snowflake patterned paper was torn into a band to fit across the center of the white snowflake layer. Before it was adhered, two lengths of pink and white washi tape applied to white card stock were adhered to the black band so they peeked out. The edges of the washi tape which showed were darkened with a black brush pen. Snowy Time was layered over that band once it was adhered to the background.

The sentiment was printed onto white card stock and the open letters were filled in with pink marker. The words were cut apart, matted with black, and popped up on foam tape. Two metal snowflakes were affixed to the top right corner with brads and three black gems were placed in the bottom left corner to balance out the design.

Bee Bold ~ Sandra Caldwell FB Group Challenge

Hi there! There is a fun challenge going on over at the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group. It's called Holley's Favourite Oldies. Holley has chosen three of Sandra's older images  and has asked us to create a project featuring one of these three: 565 Bernie Bee; 538 Sunday Best; 599 Bearly Raggedys...all great choices!

I decided to create with 565 Bernie Bee because I love love love bees and Sandra's bees always make me smile! Just look at that face! I coloured Bernie with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. His glasses were filled in with Glossy Accents to create both shine and dimension. Bernie was fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and then matted with black. Once he was trimmed out again, Bernie was popped up on foam tape to add dimension and create a natural shadow.

The 6 x 8 inch mixed media background was spritzed with Yellow Rose of Texas, Marigold Yellow Orange, and California Poppy Gold Lindy's Starburst Sprays. Pale Ochre Archival Ink was sponged through TCW Honeycomb stencil in several areas to create a subtle texture and pattern.

Two lengths of washi tape, adhered to white card stock to take away the transparency, were placed under Bernie so he would have a place to sit. Two enamel dots were adhered to the tapes. Two sizes of hexagon dies were used to cut shapes from old book text. They were matted with black and faux stitching was added with black pen. They were then added to opposite corners of the background. A tiny brass bee charm was added to one of the larger hexagons.

The sentiment was printed on white card stock and the letter openings were coloured with yellow marker. The words were then adhered flat to the background. A black border was doodled around the outside of the background and Black Big Brush Pen was used to edge the outside. Jet Black Archival Ink was used to stamp splatter dots here and there before a black matting was added to finish the page.

Imagination ~ Joggles Art Journal Adventure Week #34 Response

Barb's prompt for Week 34 of the Joggles Art Journal Adventure was to Use What's On Your Table. She created an art journal page which featured an oval shape surrounded by black paint, a gray frame, and contained two figures from a Joggles Collage Sheet. This was a format which I hadn't done before and it intrigued me. I did change up the process but went with the general idea and was able to use things that were on my table in the process.

I began by spritzing my background of the page with Vineyard Art Anthology Colorations Spray which is a purple/blue colour. The oval in the center of the page was cut from a mixed media paper background which was sitting in a pile on my table. It had been sprayed with Ocean and Patina Color Shine Sprays. Aquamarine Archival Ink was used with Stampotique's Dotted Squares stamp to create some pattern and texture on the oval. Jet Black Archival Ink was used with one of Darkroom Door's Paint Splats stamp set to create the smaller splats. A length of washi tape added to white card stock was added to give the guy a place to sit. Both images from Joggles Anthropomorphic II Collage Sheetwere adhered flat onto the oval, outlined with black pen and then again with an Inktense pencil activated with water.  Ranger Texture Paste was scraped through TCW Tiny Circles stencil to add dimension around the images. Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the oval before it was matted with black card stock and trimmed to leave a narrow border.

The oval was traced onto the sprayed page background and then another oval was drawn about .5 inches outside of that and traced over with a Medium Black Pitt pen. The same pen was used to doodle inside the frame. Liquitex Mars Black Acrylic paint was painted around the outside of the oval frame to the page edges. Once thoroughly dry, Versamark Ink was tapped through Dylusions Diamond of a Border stencil in places and white embossing powder was added to the wet ink. I didn't worry too much about tapping off the extra powder before I heat set it because I wanted that messy imperfect look.

To finish the page, the oval was adhered to the background page using Scor tape. Glossy Accents was added to both sets of glasses to add dimension and shine to the lenses. The word Imagination, an Idea-ology Big Chat Sticker was adhered to the bottom of the page and doodles were added to the white around the word. And then I called it Done Like Dinner! It was fun to meet the challenge of using what was on my table. Fortunately, I've been working on a lot of projects so I had more on there than usual although some things never get put away because I use them every time. Thank goodness for a big table!

We're baaaackkkk! ~ Joggles DT Project Sneak Peek

Barb was kind enough to give the Joggles DT Team most of August off so people could enjoy their summers. Today is the first day back and I am one of the two team members (the other is Amy) who are posting a new project on the Joggles blog today. As soon as I saw this fabulous  6 x 7.5 x 4 inch Paper Mache Gingerbread House in the Joggles shop, it became a Must Have. I love houses of all sorts and you'll often see them cropping up both in my home decor and my art. Above is a Sneak Peek of the project which I have added to the Joggles blog featuring some of the new Joggles/Virginia England cling mounted rubber stamps and some collage sheet images. The East Wind Challenge #62 ~ Shine

Hi everyone! As soon as I saw September's  newsletter freebie image from The East Wind which is called Borum, I was reminded of a song my mom used to sing when I was little... Shine On Harvest Moon. That's where Challenge # 62's theme came from. For the Shine challenge, we want to see either a sun or a moon or to see something shiny on your project. Easy Peasy!

Borum, himself, was coloured with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. He was then fussyc ut without leaving a white border. The sun/moon was die cut from a piece of white cardstock which had been spritzed with Yellow Rose of Texas, Marigold Yellow Orange, and California Poppy Gold Lindy's Starburst sprays which contain mica. Borum was adhered to the sun/moon and then the entire image was backed with black cardstock which was trimmed leaving a narrow border. This added strength to his braid and the rope as well as making the image contrast with the background. Foam tape was added to the back to pop him up.

The background, a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper, was spritzed with Electric Blue Tattered Angels, Ocean, and Teal Color Shine sprays. Once dry, Forget-Me-Not Archival Ink was applied through TCW's Microbial Stencil in several areas. It was also used on a rubber stamp of a leafless tree and stamped across the bottom of the page. This was to indicate how high Borum is swinging. White gesso was watered down slightly and used with a bottle lid to create the white rings. More of the same watered gesso was splattered over the background using a fan brush. Clouds were added to the top of the page with cheesecloth scraps.To add further shine to the page, several sizes of clear rhinestones were scattered across the sky around Borum.

The sentiment was printed onto white cardstock, cut into individual words, and matted with black. Foam tape was used to adhere them to the background for dimension. Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the page before it was matted with black cardstock which provides the look of a frame.
